The first Oregon Junior Open Blitz brought plenty of energy to the Saturday evening, with 26 players staying after a full day of tournament chess to compete in six fast-paced rounds of US Chess-rated G/3;+2 blitz.
The event was held as a side tournament of the Oregon Junior Open and welcomed players born on or after September 6, 2005. With only three minutes plus a two-second increment on the clock, the atmosphere was very different from the longer games earlier in the day: quick decisions, exciting finishes, and plenty of blunders & laughs around the room.
The evening also became part of a memorable blitz weekend for Chess A2Z. In the main Oregon Open Blitz, Chess A2Z founders Zoey and Austin Tang finished as co-champions, adding another special moment to an already exciting weekend of chess.
Congratulations to all of our winners and to all 26 players who took part in the inaugural Oregon Junior Open Blitz. We hope this event will continue to grow and become a fun annual tradition alongside the Oregon Junior Open.
