The May Open was another wonderful day of chess. We were excited to welcome a total of 132 players this month, with strong participation across all sections and many closely contested games throughout the day. One thing we are particularly proud of is continuing to make tournaments more accessible: this event provided 64 total free entries (including 45 for girls).
It was encouraging to see returning players continue to improve from previous events, while many newer players gained valuable tournament experience and confidence. We are very grateful to all the parents, volunteers, coaches, and players who helped create such a welcoming atmosphere.
To the players who did not get the results they hoped for this time: don’t be discouraged. Every tournament is part of the learning journey, and some of the most valuable lessons come from difficult games and losses. Keep playing, keep learning, and your progress will come over time.
